Librarian Storyteller of the Year Terms and Conditions

INTRODUCTION

These terms and conditions govern entry into the Librarian Storyteller of the Year award initiative as organised by Story Box Library Pty Ltd (ABN 56 165 506 507) (“Story Box Library”; “Promoter”; “SBL”).

The Story Box Library Librarian Storyteller of the Year award initiative aims to celebrate Australia’s and New Zealand’s Librarians’ achievements and recognise their ongoing community services by maintaining connection with their local communities and encouraging continued engagement with children’s stories.

Focusing on Children’s Librarians who have released their own online storytime solutions to continue to offer their services, public and school library staff who submit a 30-60 second storytelling video have the chance to be selected as SBL’s Librarian Storyteller of the Year award and a number of prizes including, the ultimate Storyteller opportunity to read professionally for SBL. 

Judges will include representatives from SBL and Nikki Shaw, New Zealand sales representative from SBL’s exclusive public library partner James Bennett, children’s book author and the current Australian Children’s Laureate, Gabrielle Wang, and 2020 SBL Librarian Storyteller of the Year and librarian at State Library of Queensland, Frankie Jaiyeola.

 

HOW TO ENTER

1. You may submit as many entries per public library or school as you like.

2. Submissions are to be a 30-60 second video file, to be named with the library’s or school’s name.

3. Videos must include an introduction with the librarian and library name; a brief reason about why they love SBL or how resources like SBL can benefit a community; a brief storytelling example featuring an appropriate story.

COMPETITION TERMS & CONDITIONS

1.     Conditions of Entry

1.1    Entry to the Competition is only open to Australian and New Zealand residents who are employed as public or school library staff (the “Entrant”, “you”, “your”).

1.2    Entrants must be aged 18 years or over.

1.3.   Directors, management and employees (and their immediate families) of Story Box Library, James Bennett Pty. Ltd (Sponsor), and immediate families of the judges, are ineligible to enter.

 

2.     How to enter:

2.1.   The competition commences at 9:00am on 30 September 2022 and ends at 11:59pm AEDT on 28 October 2022 (Competition Period).

2.2.   To enter, Eligible Entrants must, during the Competition Period, create a video 30 to 60 seconds in length, featuring an introduction with the librarian and library name; a summary about why they love Story Box Library or how Story Box Library benefits their community; a brief storytelling example featuring an appropriate and small extract of a children’s book.

2.3.   Eligible Entrants agree that the most substantial portion of their entry must be their introduction and the summary about why they love Story Box Library and how Story Box Library benefits their community. The storytelling example must be brief and must use a small and insubstantial extract of the children’s book.

2.4.   Videos are to be submitted via the Promoter’s pre-arranged DropBox at http://tiny.cc/storytellerawards2022 with video files labelled with the Eligible Entrant’s name and public library or school’s name.

 

3.     Rules of the competition

3.1.   Entry into this competition will be deemed acceptance of these terms and conditions.

3.2.   The children’s book excerpt that is read must be appropriate for storytime (not Baby Bounce or Rhyme Time) audiences of early childhood to upper primary ages.

3.3.   Entrants must respect publisher guidelines and expectations in regards to copyright of the children’s book featured, by:

(a)   Clearly identifying the author, illustrator, publisher and title of the children’s book.

(b)   Limit their excerpt of story time reading to a brief and insubstantial extract of the children’s book.

(c)   not distributing the footage of their storytelling reading publicly outside of this Competition (subject to Section 3.4 below).

3.4.   If Entrants decide to use the footage of their storytelling reading outside of this Competition, they must respect publisher guidelines and expectations in regards to copyright.

3.5.   There is no entry fee and no purchase necessary to enter this competition.

3.6.   By entering this competition, an Eligible Entrant is indicating their agreement to be bound by these terms and conditions.

3.7.   Multiple entries per public library or school are welcome.

3.8.   Entries that are late, incomprehensible or incomplete will be deemed invalid and will not be included in the judging process.

3.9.   An entry must not include any content that depicts another person without that person’s express consent, and if that person is a minor, the express, informed, written consent of that minor’s guardian.

3.10. Closing date for entries is 28 October 2022 at 11:59pm AEDT. After this date no further entries to the competition will be permitted.

3.11.  No responsibility can be accepted for entries not received for whatever reason.

3.12.  If Entrants use or share any of the Promoter’s promotional materials to announce their participation in the Competition or encourage awareness of the Competition, this will not influence winner selection.

3.13.  Entrants will respect the Promoter’s rights and ownership in promotional materials and collateral created by the Promoter, by:

(a)   complying with the Promoter’s directions or requests in relation to any use of the Promoter’s promotional materials or collateral; and

(b)   seeking permission from the Promoter to use their promotional materials or collateral after 31 December 2022.


4.     Winner selection and notification

4.1.     This Competition is a game of skill and chance plays no part in determining the Entrants selected to receive the prizes.

4.2.     Story Box Library reserves the right to validate the authenticity of entries and to request that the winning Entrant or prize recipients provide proof of identity and verification that the Entrant entered the Competition on behalf of a certified Australian or New Zealand  public library, and in the event that satisfactory proof cannot be provided (determined at the discretion of Story Box Library) the prizes will be forfeited in whole.

4.3.   The judges will have regard to the overall quality of the entry, and the Entrant’s authenticity as a storyteller. The judges will take into account how engaging, emotive and passionate the storytelling is, the Entrant’s knowledge of the target audience age level with appropriate book selection; delivery that encourages engagement with the story, comfort being in front of the camera, and overall suitability and originality in the context of the Competition (the “Judging Criteria”).

4.4.   The winners will be chosen from all entries received, and verified by the Promoter and the panel of judges appointed by the Promoter.

4.5.   The winners will be notified by email and/or phone and/or Facebook/Instagram on 15 November 2022 (the “Notification Date”).

4.6.   If winners cannot be reached by 21 November 2022, the Promoter reserves the right to withdraw the prizes and to select a new winner based on the Judging Criteria.

4.7.   Entrants agree that in the event of winning, their name can be publicly announced in the Promoter’s electronic direct mail distribution on 25 November 2022, and can be made available to any interested third parties from that date by emailing competitions@storyboxlibrary.com.au

4.8.   The judges’ decision in respect of all matters to do with the Competition and selection of Winners is final. No correspondence will be entered into regarding the selection or judging of the winning entry, including in the event of a dispute.

 

5.     The Prizes

5.1.   Story Box Library will notify the winners when and where the prizes can be delivered.

5.2.   The “Prizes” are as follows:

(a)   First Prize: Selection as a storyteller for a story video to be released on SBL, to be filmed in the winner’s home state in 2023 (subject to COVID-19 restrictions), and invitation to participate in the Librarian Storyteller of the Year judging panel in 2024.

(b)   Second Prize: A voucher from library softgoods supplier Raeco, valued at approximately $1000.

(c)   Third Prize: A collection of 10 children’s books that are also featured on SBL, to be donated by James Bennett, valued at approximately AU$250 RRP per set.

5.3.   The Prizes are as stated and no cash or other alternatives will be offered. The Prizes are not transferable. Prizes are subject to availability and the Promoter reserves the right to substitute any Prize with another of equivalent value without giving notice.

5.4.   The Promoter is not responsible for inaccurate Prize details supplied to any Entrant by any third party connected with this Competition.

5.5.   If a Prize is unclaimed for a period of three (3) months after the Notification Date, Story Box Library may at their discretion, select another Entrant, based on the Judging Criteria, to receive the Prize, in accordance with these Terms and Conditions.

5.6.   Story Box Library may, in its sole discretion, declare any submission invalid and/or prohibit further participation by an Entrant in this Competition or any other competition or promotion held by Story Box Library if the Entrant:

(a)   Disrupts, abuses, threatens, harasses or attempts to do any of these things to the Promoter, another Entrant or potential Entrant or anyone else associated with the Competition;

(b)   Engages in conduct that is misleading, deceptive, fraudulent or damaging to the Promoter’s goodwill or reputation;

(c)   Fails to comply with any reasonable requests or guidelines in relation to the Competition; or;

(d)   Fails to comply with these Terms and Conditions.

 

6.     Privacy Policy

6.1.   Story Box Library requires the Entrant’s personal information in order to conduct the Competition. If the Entrant does not provide the personal information requested, the Entrant will not be able to take part in the Competition.

6.2.   By submitting your personal information in this Competition, you are taken to consent on behalf of the Prize Recipient’s, to Story Box Library using your name and image to administer the Competition, to announce the winners of the Prizes and to communicate with third parties as required by law.

6.3.   By entering this Competition, you acknowledge and agree that Story Box Library may contact you to confirm that they would like to use the introduction and testimonial portion of your submission on its dedicated Testimonials page and to share the testimonials with our subscribers and members via email or on social media, on an ongoing basis. Any such use will be strictly for promotional purposes, and will be confirmed in writing by Story Box Library. Story Box Library will only use the introduction and testimonial portion of your submission in accordance with this Section if they receive your confirmation in response to their notice.

6.4.   By entering the Competition, you consent to receiving future communications from the Promoter by email including newsletters, special offers and promotions, unless otherwise expressly advised by you in writing. 6.5.   An entry must not include any content that depicts another person without that person’s express consent, and if that person is a minor, the consent of that minor’s guardian.

 

7.     Miscellaneous

7.1.   The competition and these terms and conditions will be governed by Australian law and any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Australia.

7.2.   The Promoter shall have the right, at its sole discretion and at any time, to change or modify these terms and conditions, such change shall be effective immediately upon posting to the Promoter’s blog and/or Facebook/Instagram accounts and/or via electronic direct mail correspondence to the entrants.

7.3.   The Promoter reserves the right to cancel or amend the Competition and these terms and conditions without notice in the event of a pandemic, epidemic, catastrophe, war, civil or military disturbance, act of God or any actual or anticipated breach of any applicable law or regulation or any other event outside of the promoter’s control that interferes with the Promoter’s ability to administer this Competition. Any changes to the Competition will be notified to Eligible Entrants as soon as possible by the Promoter.
