Keep kids inspired with diverse stories and creative activities over the summer with Story Box Library’s Summer Holiday Story and Activity Challenge.

Designed to support the summer reading programs and book clubs already offered by public libraries, we connect families with a world of stories by extending your library’s collection anywhere there’s an internet connection - including the back garden, local park or even a beach tent - and also encouraging them to visit their library and connect with their communities.

Library patrons can participate in the Story Box Library Summer Story and Activity Challenge in four steps:

  1. Watch the story read.

  2. Learn more with Short Films.

  3. Play with Activity Time.

  4. Borrow and discover more!

Download our free printable SBL Summer Story and Activity Time resources here, which includes a story and activity log sheet, fridge card for login credentials and fill-in bookmarks!

“Research has identified a phenomenon known as the ‘summer slide’, which refers to the loss of literacy skills over the summer holidays when children do not read—estimated on average as the equivalent of two to three months of reading proficiency ... studies have found that children who receive and read free books over summer experience the equivalent of attending three years of summer school." - Big Summer Read
